Guide To The Best Budget Hotels in Cornwall

Well, well, well … let me just say today has been a hassle to write this because of the recent o2 data failure worldwide. However, I was clever enough to do research on the BEST budget hotels in Cornwall, so I could write this without internet … clever Molly! Cornwall is home to some fab accommodation including hotels, hostels and self-hosted accommodation with views over-looking the many award-winning beaches.

From St. Austell to Newquay there is something for everyone to enjoy in the South West, all for under £80 per person per night. I know £80pp is a lot, however that is the cheapest on which is a super easy way to book your next trip. So, if you are planning a getaway with friends or family trip, here are some hotels on a budget to keep your eye on. I haven’t been to all of these hotels, however I do have very good knowledge of Cornwall and offer fab advice when I can!

1 – YHA Treyarnon Hostel

Starting off with what I know best, hostels, the best way to meet people even if you travel solo or with friends. The best part is this hostel is only 50 yards from the beach, I mean what more do you want? Oh and it also has a restaurant, not many hostels have this which I think gives it a bit of an edge. I do find hostels that offer a restaurant have given me extra value and fun. I do think that Cornwall does offer the best food and drink which is what you can find in their restaurant.

What else is on offer with this hostel? There is a guest lounge available with sofas, Wi-Fi with …. Wait for it …. A log fire! I mean what is Cornwall without a log fire? Especially without coming in from a long day of surfing cold and in need to warm up. Speaking of surfing, you can also take surfing lessons nearby to the hostel (I can’t surf but I do enjoy trying). It has been voted one of the best-rated accommodation in Padstow, and make sure you explore Padstow it is still one of my favourite places in Cornwall.

2 – The Quies Guest House

Already from the look of The Quies, it is the perfect mixture of a modern décor alongside the look of a Cornish cottage and it is set in the vibrant town of Newquay. For a budget hotel, it provides a 4 star service alongside a run terrace and a games room and is only a 2 minute walk from the beach. The rooms provide everything you would expect including a DVD player, which isn’t normal so bring some family favourites for nights in.

I will always say this but the English do a bloody fabulous English Breakfast, which is what you can get in this gorgeous guest house. There is a storage facility, not just for surfboards BUT for fishing equipment too … there are many activities to do in Cornwall. This will be a great place to bring family as there is also a PlayStation with free games for everyone to enjoy.  The guest house is close to The Eden Proect with only 15 miles in between both, so able to do something a bit different. There is limited free parking available, however if you are travelling by train the station is only half a mile away and is close to the airport. Such a gem in this budget hotels in Cornwall guide!

3 - The Rivercroft Hotel Looe

I haven’t been to Looe before, but from what I have heard it is a very lovely place to go due to it’s beauty and charm. TheRivercroft Hotel offers a sun terrace with a view of the river and not to forget a bar and restaurant. This traditional bed and breakfast has a luggage storage facility and free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel. I must say, I haven’t seen many places that have dart boards anymore. When I was younger we would always go to traditional pubs and play darts, and it is a shame there aren’t many anymore. However, The Rivercroft Hotel does!

There are towns nearby to Looe that are worth a mention including Plymouth which is only 20 minutes away … fab if you want a quick shopping trip with the family! Again there is a nearby train station and Newquay airport is only 33 miles away. Top tip from, it is fab for couples! Nice little romantic break away with the other half.

4 – St. Michaels Resort

So this hotel falls under the £80pp bracket but is one of the most expensive, however it is worth it because it is the most gorgeous hotel I have seen in Cornwall – plus they have fab deals. I went quite a few times when I was younger and played there for a wedding (I played the piano). It is simply stunning, and is based in Falmouth which is easily in my top 3 places to visit in Cornwall. The hotel has a restaurant, a health club and …. A spa. The spa includes a hydrotherapy pool, 10 treatment rooms and saunas … sign me up.

Falmouth is a great location with amazing restaurants, local shops and a gorgeous harbour. The hotel is centrally located and 2 minutes away from the footpath, 10 minute walk to the station and there is on-site parking. Basically everything you want and more and that is the reason it is on my budget hotels in Cornwall.

5 – The Garrack Hotel

The Garrack Hotel in St. Ives is a family-favourite as it is very popular for hotel guests and locals alike with many work parties taking place there in the hotel’s restaurant. OMG I just found out that they have an indoor HEATED….HEATED pool … that is all I need to know. For the budget hotel, it does offer a lot of value including a flat-screen TV, sea views and food including local seafood which is great seeing as St. Ives is known for it’s fishing.

As well the garden, guests can hotel the beach and town centre with a 15 minute walk and for those looking for a challenge can enjoy the coastal path. Again, according to this hotel is particularly popular with couples although anyone go and treat yourself here.

6 – Ebb St. Ives

When you live in St. Ives, you pretty much know everything about everyone and know the names of most businesses. I must say when I was looking at photos, the rooms look so cute and cosy. It is a bed and breakfast within walking distance to the harbour, also offering a terrace and garden views. St. Ives is the best place to have a terrace especially with the most amazing views on offer. There is also a lot on offer in St. Ives, including museums, surfing and restaurants for the foodies.

Just like any hotel should have, there is an extensive (word used by so I trust it) breakfast menu which is something I appreciate a lot. Make use of the free toiletries too, I am telling you the toiletries are one of the best things about hotel stays. The easiest way to get to St. Ives apart from car would be either by train or coach where it stops in the centre of town or plane with Newquay Airport being 27 ,miles away. Definitely consider Ebb in St. Ives as one of the best budget hotels in Cornwall as your next choice.

7 – The Stargazy Inn

Any place that ends in Inn to me screams cosy and warm, which is what I love to expect whenever I visit Cornwall. However, TheStargazy Inn offers a modern touch to their rooms which I think actually makes it a lot better. Plus, it is situated in Port Isaac which again is another favourite of mine and is where Doctor Martin is filmed of course a popular TV series in England. Of course, rooms offer sea views alongside Wi-Fi and free PRIVATE parking!.

Port Isaac is one of my favourites because they have such amazing traditional sweet shops where I have a fond memory of always getting my favourite treats. Make sure to treat yourself to a cream tea, pasty or fish and chips as the town has many shops to choose from. I MUST recommend you to visit Polzeath as it is only 6 miles away and again a family favourite to visit.

8 – Rockleigh Place

Looking at pictures of this standalone beautifulaccommodation, offers apartments available in the quaint town of St. Austell. There are a selections of attractions are close by including the Eden Project and The Lost Gardens of Heligan. This is the perfect self-catered apartment I have mentioned and it provides a kitchenette, private bathroom and free parking on-site. This form of accommodation is becoming more and more popular in recent years and I think adds a personal touch to someone’s vacation. It is always nice to have something different on this budget hotels in Cornwall list.

On, the accommodation is rated as 9.4 especially for couples so again Cornwall provides so many romantic destinations. Again, Newquay comes through again for transport as the airport is only 12 miles away. Despite Cornwall being so far away from everyone it seems, it is very easy to get around the gorgeous county.

9 – Waterside Cornwall

Idyllic … that is one word that can be said about this gorgeous lodge. Actually paradise is another word to describe this dream close to the town of Bodmin. I personally think this is perfect for ANYONE, the sound of a lodge sounds so relaxing. So as well as an indoor pool, the lodge has a flat screen TV, a terrace and a fully-equipped kitchen.  As much as I love the city, sometimes it is good to just get away from it all and this is the place to be.

From reading it’s website, there is a lot to do in this lodge as there is a restaurant, meeting rooms and a shared lounge. I definitely think driving is the way to do but there are towns nearby including Newquay and Bodmin. However, there is Roche Railway Station in case you are travelling by train.

10 – Pentire Hotel

Located ideally on the headland in between the famous Fistral Beach and an Estuary, imagine the views from this hotel. I must say I do love modern buildings and it is rare to see these gems in Cornwall as we want to retain it’s charm. However, Pentire Hotel has the perfect amount of modern décor including a leisure centre and free Wi-Fi. As if these hotels couldn’t get any better, it has table tennis facilities, a pool table AND an indoor heated pool!!! Take me now please.

If you do visit, make sure to treat yourself to a cooked breakfast… I mean come on it is one of the best things to have. I never go to a hotel and not have a cooked breakfast. Newquay is only a 20 minute walk away, which isn’t bad considering the location of the hotel itself. Plus, you are near Fistral Beach which is an absolute gem of a beach to visit for all the family for any type of vacation. Just make sure you visit. Promise me? Yes? Fab!

I wrote this post because I personally feel that Cornwall is one of the best places in the UK, even in the world and deserves more visitors to admire it. I have no affiliate links or money motives as this isn’t what it is about. I just think that these hotels and destinations offer a lot and Cornwall relies a lot on tourism. I love the cities that I have mentioned and think everyone should visit at least one of them. Have you been to any of these places, if so what did you think?

It has been a wild week, been working a lot, blogging a lot and fighting away around that o2 data problem. However, it isn’t long until Christmas where we can celebrate the festivities with our family or are you travelling if so that is amazing! Make sure to have a catch up on my blog if you can, my recent post is here. I am hoping to get more Southampton posts up, hopefully during my time off I can meet up with some friends. Just need my data to help me out to message people. Also, countdown to a new laptop to work on new content without worrying my laptop is about to fall apart and I cannot wait! Christmas can’t come soon enough.

Mol xo
