3 Interesting (And Historical) Things To Do In Bath | Travel Tips

Bath is one of those cities that you just have to go and visit if you’re living in the UK, or even if you’re on vacation here and looking to visit somewhere outside of London (and the usual tourist haunts). Not only is it a beautiful city with a lot of history to boot, but it is also jam-packed with so many buzzing bars and restaurants, so that you can treat yourself to something tasty after a long day of seeing the sights. We’ve put together a list of three things that you should do, if you find yourself in this great city.

1. Visit the Roman Baths
If you haven’t twigged by now, Bath takes its name from the fact that the Romans constructed this site for bathing in around 70 AD. Unfortunately, you can’t actually bathe here as the original led pipes are still in use (and they’re too dangerous) but it is quite a sight in itself, especially if you’re a bit of a history buff looking to find out more about the interesting past of this beautiful city. You do have to pay to go in, but it is well worth it as you’ll be amused for a few hours by this ancient historical landmark.

2. Take a trip to Bath Abbey

Hold on, history lovers (and travel lovers), Bath still has a lot to offer you after your trip to the Roman Baths! Bath Abbey is another one of those landmarks that originates from a long time ago - the 7th century to be precise - and its gothic architecture is certainly worth seeing. Trust us, this place will take your breath away, and you can also go to the top of the Abbey to see views across the entire city. It’s free to get in, but you’ll have to pay to go to the top (and we’ll say it again, it's worth it!).

3. Walk around The Royal Crescent

The Royal Crescent is a series of thirty houses, shaped in a sort of half-moon (what the historical types would call a half colosseum) and it is another architectural wonder. There is also a museum in one of the houses if you want to get a feel for what the living standards would have been like in the past, and it’s a good idea to get yourself a hotel in Bath city centre, so that you can wake up early to see the sun rise over these beautiful houses, just imagining that you were there. Yes please.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So, if you’re looking to visit Bath, there are a lot of great reasons to do so, and we couldn’t possibly include them all here. Whether you’re interested in all of the history that it has to offer, or you just want to have a wander through the old fashioned streets and discover some surprises, there are many reasons to head over here. If that doesn’t tickle your fancy, there are plenty of restaurants and bars that probably will, so have fun, and enjoy all that Bath has in store!

It is easily one of my favourite cities, I love the history. I love Les Miserables, and the film is actually partly set here too!
